Ya know, the Internet is awesome. Here I have this random little blog, never imagining that anyone outside my social circle might read it. (Or even within my social circle, for that matter).
About a month ago I watched this obscure film on cable called
Freak Talks About Sex. Steve Zahn is probably the only actor in it that anyone would recognize. It's more or less about a guy who's returned home to his small town after graduating from college. He's working a dead-end job and is pretty much trying to figure what he wants to be when he grows up. He and his buddy Freak sit around a lot, smoking pot and talking about sex. It's better than it sounds.
There's a scene where the two guys meet up at a club, and there's this really hilarious punk band on stage screaming a song that goes, "I lost my girl, I lost my car, I lost my girl and I lost my car..." After watching the closing credits, I discerned that the song was appropriately called "Girls And Cars," and the band's name was The Tortillas You Wanted.
With some Googling I was able to determine that the band was out of Ithaca, but I couldn't locate a tape or CD containing the song anywhere. Repeated searches via my chosen illicit file-sharing portal produced no result.
Hence I posted a plea on this blog asking that if anyone knew of where I could find "Girls and Cars," would they please drop me a line.
Today I receved an e-mail from a guy named Eric: "was reading your blog and saw you were looking for this..." Therein was included a link to a Web site called
glurp.com. Now, not only do I have the song I was looking for, but I have also learned that Glurp is apparently an indie label based in Austin, TX. I will be checking out the mp3s by their bands and issuing a full report soon.
BTW, according to the credits of the aforementioned movie, an "Eric Zappa" is listed as a member of The Tortillas You Wanted. Could this be the same Eric that sent me the mp3? Hmmmm...
